Somerville, Massachusetts treatment of disc pain

At Riverside Chiropractic Center our goal is to eliminate the cause (i.e. compression of spinal cord or nerve by a disc bulge or herniation), while trying to control symptoms by therapies such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, and cold laser therapy. The following are some of the common and effective treatment techniques that Dr. Pourshadi uses:

Cold laser therapy seems to be a promising therapy for disc treatment as it not only helps with reduction of patient's symptoms, it also is proven to be effective in healing and repair process of the disc.

No-Force techniques such as flexion-distraction (F/D) and Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT).

F/D technique tends to reduce compression of the spinal cord or nerve and helps in resorption of the disc bulge or herniation. A special table is used for performing this technique.

SOT makes use of a couple of block cushions and patient's own body weight to alleviate the pressure on the cord and nerve.

Somerville, Massachusetts treatment of headache

The majority of people (more thatn 90%) with headaches suffer from tension or cervicogenic (originating from neck spine) headaches which are often wrongly labeled as migraine headaches. Tension headaches are caused by spine misalignments and muscular tightness which could originate from a trauma such as a whiplash accident, abnormal posture, or wrong work or home ergonomics. These types of headaches respond very favorably to chiropractic care and even true migraine sufferers notice significant improvement after receiving chiropractic care. We have many satisfied patients who are glad they gave chiropractic a chance so they do not have to suffer any longer or rely on over the counter medication to mask their pain forever. Just remember there's no such thing as a "normal headache" and if you are experiencing headaches even once per month, that is not considered normal and needs to be addressed. Please see our blog entry (11/27/2011) for more information.

Somerville, Massachusetts treatment of auto accident and work injuries

Receiving chiropractic care after an accident can make the difference between complete recovery and lingering or recurring pain and disability which can last years after the accident. In Massachusetts all automobile insurance policies have compulsory no fault personal injury coverage. It is compulsory, and making a claim for treatment of injury does not increase the owner's insurance premium. This insurance called Personal Injury Protection and covers up to $8000 medical expenses. Also employees injured while at work are entitled to workers compensation coverage for their medical needs, including chiropractic care.

Somerville, Massachusetts treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome

A hands on, non- invasive approach called Myofascial Release Technique used by many chiropractors, including Dr. Pourshadi, has proven very effective in treatment of patients with carpal tunnel symptomology in many cases. This technique, in addition to gentle manipulation of carpal bone in the wrist helps to remove fibrous adhesions along the nerve pathway. The doctor uses his thumb pads to apply pressure on the knots and nodules within the muscles and break up the adhesion fibers while the target muscle is actively engaged and lengthened by the patient. The feeling resembles a deep tissue message. There is no down time, no drug to take and the suitable candidates often achieve positive results in a short time. Please see our blog entry (10/20/2011) for more information.

Somerville, Massachusetts treatment of back pain in pregnant women

Pregnant women are likely to develop back and pelvic pain, or even sciatica pain due to their weight and hormonal changes. Hormonal changes cause laxity of ligaments which is specially true with respect to pelvic region. A shift in body weight and center of gravity due to positioning of the fetus exacerbate the problem. More common pelvic pain could bring about pain in the entire back. Compression of sciatic nerve is also commonly seen.

Chiropractic care is the number one natural remedy for realigning the spine and stabilizing pelvis hence reducing pain for pregnant women. Dr. Pourshadi has ample experience working with expecting mothers. His gentle approach (using mostly non-force Sacro-Occipital Technique or Flexion-Distraction Technique) has helped many mothers to have an easier and pain free pregnancy. Some of the second time mothers indicated that they even had an easier labor. Please see our blog entry ( 3/27/2012 ) for more information.
